ARTIST STATEMENT
I have completed my Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts at Lasalle College of the Arts, Singapore. Previously I had completed 3 years in Rachana Sansad college in Bombay. I usually express my notions through paintings, yet in the past one year, I have started exploring other mediums such as installation, video and materials like clay, ceramics, X-rays to push my concepts further .
I felt the need to explore sexuality in India, where interestingly, eroticism is boldly depicted in ancient Indian explicit art and architecture. But, in modern day, sex is taboo and Hence, I am exploring the idea of concealing the obscenity of such works in the contemporary Indian art world.
I also felt the need to create a commentary on our body as a product, not only by the buying, selling and smuggling of organs, but also in the field of art where artists are treating the body as an object as their artwork. I am creating a brand, an organ shop installation, advertisements and other marketing strategies and paintings on X- rays to depict this notion.
Underlying all these subjects however,is a concern and fondness about biology, the framing of its narrative and how we interpret them. Through this biology, I connect my subjects and entwine them to create a commentary on these subjects.
